3 Tips to Quiet the Voices in your Head

You know those times when your brain just WON?T. SHUT. UP?
Yep. I have those times, too.
And while I?m far from perfect at it, I have a few tips that help quiet the voices in your head.

You know those times when your brain just WON?T. SHUT. UP.
Yep. I have those times, too.
And while I?m far from perfect at it, I have a few tips that help quiet the voices in your head.
1: Write Everything Down
The job of the voices in your head is to protect you.?
In that regard, they are like an impatient three-year-old, desperately wanting mommy?s attention, and they?ll keep pulling on your sleeve till they get it. The reason to write everything down is that the act of writing acknowledges the three-year-old.?
You don?t have to try to remember all the things those voices are telling you, because they?re in front of you. You don?t have to push away or ignore the voices. Writing things down – making a list of all the what ifs and to-dos usually placates the voices.
2: Write Off What’s Just Not Going To Happen
When the voices are shouting at you, they often throw in things that are irrelevant, or just don?t need to be done. However, these things make excellent fodder for heaping more crap on your plate.
After you?ve made your list, just cross out the things that you do NOT need to do today. Or even this week. Tell the voices you?ve heard, you?re aware, and those aren?t on the table.
(I got this idea from a time & space management expert, who said that it?s easier to throw out a few things when you have ALL of your stuff in front of you to evaluate. Good idea!)
3: Analyze And Improve Your Resource State
One of the main reasons that the voices get louder is that you?re not well-resourced. Perhaps you?re tired, or you?ve been under extra stress.?
It should be the case that the voices quiet down during those times, but exactly the opposite is true. They get louder, they remind you of that insignificant detail that you SHOULD have done something about? they?re just far more annoying when you?re poorly resourced.
So check your resource state. When you know that you aren?t fully resourced, take an action to improve it. Take a nap, do some tapping (my fav!), meditate, or watch an inspiring video. You have the ability to change the conversation with the voices to something more powerful.
What?s YOUR favorite way to improve your resource state?? ?
