How to Handle Failure
(or Mind-Candy for Your Business)

How have YOU failed this week?
OUCH. Tough word, failure.
Yet as you work to build a business, you fail all the time.
How have YOU failed this week?
OUCH. Tough word, failure.
Yet as you work to build a business, you fail all the time.

You invite someone to be a client, and she says no. You send an email out, and several people unsubscribe from your list. A client gets annoyed when she finds you don?t respond to texts at 8pm. (Yep, that?s happened.)
How do you maintain a bright, cheery attitude and positive focus with all this failure around you?
I have 3 different 15-second techniques that I use in my business and life. I call them ?Mind-Candy? because they allow me to bring a little sweetness to my day. Even when things don?t seem to be going well, I feel more empowered!
I?ll share my Mind-Candy with you 🙂
The goal of any piece of mind-candy is to get you to focus elsewhere, rather than on the pain of failure. You can put yourself in a different emotional state, like gratitude, you?ll literally be more resourceful, and are more likely to overcome the situation you find yourself in. Even if there isn?t an immediate solution, you feeling better will improve the quality of your life, and ultimately your business.
As you sample the Mind-Candy, I suggest you read them out loud, and see which one you enjoy most 🙂
Mind-Candy #1:
(This works particularly well when I?m feeling like I need to be very courageous and don?t feel that way, or I feel like the stakes are very high.)
I am imagining what it must be like to be a first-responder. To risk physical harm, even death, to go help others. Although I know I help others in my business, I only risk my feelings. And the stakes aren?t as high as for first-responders, or ER staff. That?s life-and-death. While what I do is priceless, I am grateful that the arena I operate in is not that urgent or dangerous. I am grateful that I have this opportunity, and that I am courageous enough to manage my feelings around failure and success.
Mind-Candy #2:
I?m imagining that everything that has happened to me is for my greatest good. What opportunities for learning have presented themselves through this situation? What does this tell me about the clients that I want to serve, and the way that I want to serve them? Does this give me an opportunity to work on my fears, my limiting beliefs, and the parts of me that are causing me distress so that I can move to a new level of joy and calm? I am grateful that I can reframe this situation, not as a block to hold me back, but as an important turning point in moving forward.
Mind-Candy #3:
I?m imagining that everything that has happened to me is for my greatest good. What opportunities for learning have presented themselves through this situation? What does this tell me about the clients that I want to serve, and the way that I want to serve them? Does this give me an opportunity to work on my fears, my limiting beliefs, and the parts of me that are causing me distress so that I can move to a new level of joy and calm? I am grateful that I can reframe this situation, not as a block to hold me back, but as an important turning point in moving forward.
I?m imagining if this were my last or only day on earth, and I look around me. What would I choose to focus on? What would delight me? I am grateful for the people in my life that I love and who love me, and the environment I live in, and the small things that bring me joy. How precious those things feel! I am grateful that I can take this moment to appreciate them.?
